High Performance Storage
As the size of the compute system grows the requirements on the storage system grows – both in terms of performance (MB/s) and capacity (storage volume). The simplest solution, a server with disks used as NAS server, usually used as initial storage in smaller sized cluster may need to be replaced with for example a segmented or parallel storage solution as the compute system grows. Go Virtual works with multiple storage vendors and solutions to be able to configure a storage system meeting the specific need in every case.
Storage Server
For smaller sized clusters with moderate IO requirements we usually use a single server with disks as NAS server for data storage. If the NAS server is used for more than intermediate storage we complement the server with a backup solution.
Segmented Storage Solution – HP X9000
The HP X9000 Storage Solution is particularly suitable in environments dominated by small files and high metadata operation rates and where only a single thread reads/writes from/to each file at the time. The X9000 system is designed for scalability, flexibility and cost efficiency while delivering excellent performance. The X9000 storage system supports among others single global name space, tiered storage transparent for end users, snapshots, replication, etc.
Parallel Storage Solutions
A parallel storage solution is to recommend in (larger) environments where many threads write to the same file, which is the case in for example with fluid dynamics simulations. Go Virtual primarily works with parallel storage solutions from Panasas but can also deliver DDN/Lustre based storage through HP.
