ANSYS ICEM CFD / AI*Environment

Mesh generation is one of the cornerstones in every CFD of FEA process. CAE-engineers spend most of their time cleaning geometries and producing meshes. Using a meshing tool which handles dirty CAD geometries will shorten the lead time for mesh generation vastly. A meshing tool that gives the engineer a large flexibility in the choice of meshing approach is important to be able to quickly generate high quality meshes on every type of geometry.

ICEM CFD is the most powerful general purpose meshing tool on the market. ICEM CFD reads all major CAD formats on the market. It minimises the time spent fixing geometries by:
  • Direct CAD-interfaces to Unigraphics, Catia, Pro/Engineer, SRDC-IDEAS, Solid Works and Solid Edge.
  • A powerful set of tools for fixing geometry problems.
  • Top-down hexa meshing and Octree tetra meshing can produce high quality meshes on dirty geometries.

ICEM CFD offers a complete range of meshing approaches for generation of structured, unstructured and hybrid meshes.
  • ICEM CFD Hexa is the most powerful hexahedral meshing tool on the market using the unique top-down approach together with face extrusion possibilities.
  • ICEM CFD Tetra/Prism offers an unmatched toolbox for producing tetra meshes. It can start from CAD geometry, surface meshes or any mix of surface mesh on some parts and only CAD geometry on other parts. Tetra/Prism offers both Octree and Delauney techniques together with a fast and flexible prim generator. With the prism generator you only need to build one prism layer which then can be splitted into several layers with a specified distribution. This is very powerful for complex geometries.
ICEM CFD has powerful features for mesh editing from operations on the entire mesh, regions of the mesh and all the way down to editing single nodes and elements. For quality work there are a large number of different quality measures as well as the possibility for user defined quality measures.

ICEM CFD is also perfectly suited for building hybrid meshes. You can build all types of meshes in one tool. The unique merge feature merges different mesh parts automatically with a conformal mesh as a result. If you need to merge hexa and tetra meshes the merge feature automatically puts pyramid cells on the quad faces of the hexa cells at the interface to make a conformal transition into the tetrahedral part of the mesh.
